Lake Havasu

Saturday 27 Feb 21 Sunset on Lake Havasu

Saturday 27 Feb 21

I was woken up by a police officer around 1:30 informing me that I could not park/camp within the city limits. After that sad news I drove north on Highway 95N and found a pull-out and parked there for the rest of the night. I woke around 8 and let the dogs out for a bit. After feeding them breakfast I drove back to Burger King. I had coffee, updated my budget and read the Epoch Times. As I was getting ready to leave I noticed a elderly man wearing a Korean War cap. I told him I was thankful for his service. He replied that he was thankful for my service as well. A little confused, I asked him how he knew I was a veteran. He said that from his experience only other veterans acknowledge his service in the Korean War. His name was Clyde Neel and he would turn 90 years old in March. I talked with Neil for an hour and learned that he was a medic in the Korean War. He said that he had treated a lot of soldiers and the worst were those who had suffered burns. After the war got out of the army and ultimately retired as a heavy equipment mechanic for Pacific Telecommunication Company. His wife of 53 years had died ten years ago.

Back in the RT I made oats for breakfast with toast and grapefruit. Later I drove to a motorcycle shop and bought oil for the TW200. I then parked in a dirt parking lot above the channel on the north side of the bridge. I took both Wiggin and Pete down to the channel for a while. Later I took Pete back to the RT and Wiggin and I walked all the way to the end of the channel. There was a park there with an area of grass. I watched several speed boats idle by until they got beyond the buoys. There they would put the pedal to the metal, actually there is no pedal and no medal but they went full throttle and sped off. There were also a group of folks flying some fancy kites.

Wiggin and I played along the beach until the sunset. I checked on Pete several times using my phone and the security camera in the RT. He was definitely feeling neglected and was barking every time I checked. I try to get him out often but I don't want to deprive Wiggin of some fun times in his senior years. When Pete is with us it is slow going unless I carry him.

After dark I took Wiggin back to the RT. There was a truck parked next to me with the passenger's door open. The owner Roger and I had a nice conversation. He works for the Ferry service that goes to the Lake Havasu Landing Casino. He said the ferry was only $2 for a round trip and that I should take it during the day so I could get some good views of the lake. I planned to do that the next day. After I talked to Roger I walked back down to the bridge and walked around a bit. There was a bunch of young men 20 or so, all with a set of golf clubs that were waiting to get on the ferry. A very rowdy group that had obviously had a few too many drinks.

As I walk past the two main restaurants I could hear karaoke coming from the Blue Chair Restaurant. I walked on to the other side of the bridge to a Marina and walked out and examined a couple sailboats. I would really like to learn to sail and may do that in the near future.

After a while I went back to the RT and drove back to the Walmart to see if by chance they had gotten the battery that I needed for the RT. Sure enough they had one battery. I decided it was too late to tear down the RT to access the bad battery tonight so I got back on the road and drove north of town to a pull out and parked there for the night.
